Announcing #TheChris100 for 2021!

Wow! I can't believe it's been (almost) a full year since I announced the launch of #TheChris100 wrestler of the year poll. I was super excited to launch the project last winter, and was super thrilled with the results. In case you forgot, here's the top 10 from the inaugural list:

10. Katsuhiko Nakajima
9. Daniel Bryan
8. Hiromu Takahashi
7. Yoshinari Ogawa
6. El Hijo de Fishman
5. Wotan
4. Tetsuya Naito
3. Masashi Takeda
2. Kaito Kiyomiya
1. Go Shiozaki

As fun as last year's list was, I'm even more excited to get ready for the 2021 version of The Chris 100! Last year 26 voters submitted ballots for the poll, and 448 wrestlers made the list. This year, I'd like to grow those numbers. I'm hoping for around 35 ballots this year, but pushing 40 and even 50 would be a dream. And there will certainly be more than 448 wrestlers making this year's list, because The Chris 100 is expanding!

Last year, the individual ballots were limited to 50 wrestlers because a lot of the voters had hard times coming up with even 50 names due to so many promotions having to take long COVID absences. With a more "normal" wrestling calendar year, I'd like to introduce the option for voters to list 100 workers on their ballots. That makes this year's list more in line with The Chris 100's predecesser, the WDKW100.

You will still be able to submit lists of 50. However, ballots of 50 will be weighted less than ballots of 100. Those are the only sized lists I will accept, because I don't want to have to do different math for a single person who submits a list of 72 names. If you do submit a list of 72 names, I am cutting that number down to 50 and weighing it like a 50-person ballot.

The Full Rules:

  1. Vote for your top 50 or 100 wrestlers based purely on their 2021 resumes
  2. Any ballot that falls between 50 and 100 (e.g. a 72-name ballot) will be cut off and treated as a 50-name ballot.
  3. This poll is for in-ring, bell-to-bell work only. Promo ability, drawing power, etc. should not be considered.
  4. Tape date only. Any work taped in 2020 but aired in 2021 should not be considered. Work taped at the end of 2021 that airs in 2022 should be considered for this year's list, not next year's.
  5. Ballots will be weighted by the method used in the past for the WDKW
    1. 50-person ballots: 1st place-75 points, 2nd-65 points, 3rd-60 points, etc.
    2. 100-person ballots: 1st place-125 points, 2nd-115 points, 3rd-110 points, etc.
  6. I reserve the right to toss any ballots that may be jokes/trolling/different ballots sent by one person
  7. Ballots will be accepted from midnight EST on Dec. 25 until midnight EST on March 1.
  8. Ballots can be sent to me via Twitter DM or Google Form
The link to the ballot submission Google Form will be listed here when the submission period begins. It will also be my pinned Tweet on my Twitter (@fighthaskins) throughout the season.

I'm excited. Let's get this going. Below is a picture of The Fiend:
